Teaching a person is never easy. Nevertheless with the right understanding in how people learn, teaching someone can be a piece of cake.

Teaching steps

1 Explaining in words: Explain in a way that is most easily understood by the person. The choice of words, sentence structure, tone and pace of speech will affect the quality of teaching

2 Demonstrating in action: Showing the person learning how the task is actually done with clear explanation all along.

3 Doing the task together: Engage the person learning the task to do the task with you step by step which serves to reinforce the message he/she received by listening and watching.

4 Supervising the task: You watch carefully how the person learning how he/she does it and supervise him/her by pointing out mistakes and reminding any missing steps.

5 Doing the task independently: The person learning to do the task is skillful enough to do the task all by himself/herself without the assistance of his/her teacher/mentor

(Note that step 1 to step 4 may need to be repeated many times before any person can confidently acquire a new knowledge or skill. One can never overemphasize the important principle of "Learning by repetition" because very few people can learn a new skill the first time they hear it, watch it or does it. Most people would need to repeat a few or many times before they are confident or skillful in the new task)
